Founded in 1958 by Forrest J Ackerman, Famous Monsters of Filmland began as a black and white fanzine for Universal horror movies of the 30s and 40s before expanding into further coverage on movie makeup and overseas monster stars like Godzilla. It eventually became so successful that it was the go-to resource on special effects and filmmaking for monster kids all over the world, including current luminaries like Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Guillermo del Toro, and many others. After a brief hiatus in the 90s, FM returned to print stronger than ever in 2010.

Today, Famous Monsters is much more than simply a magazine. The company partners with producers and networks around the world for conventions and festivals, such as Alien Expo 2017 and the 2017 Famous Monsters Halloween Bash.
